Enterprise Agreement talks positive

(25 May 2010) The first two weeks of May saw a concentrated round of negotiations between Post and the unions.

The talks have been productive and very positive, canvassing a wide range of key issues.

The biggest headway made to date has been on dispute resolution, where Australia Post has agreed to full arbitration.  This is a tremendous advance and will help protect so many conditions that members have been concerned about.

There's also been some great progress in resolving our outstanding concerns regarding the use of Facility Nominated Doctors.

While on the issue of OH&S, Post has agreed to develop a new OHS Agreement - that will fully involve the unions, similar to the 1992 Agreement.  Another great win.

A fresh look has been taken at the issue of job design, particularly within MND, to help lift productivity, workplace flexibility - and the number of full time job opportunities in Post.

And there were also wide ranging discussions on modernising the Retail Post Agreement - with more announcements on this to be made in the near future.

There's still some work to do but the fact that the parties have resolved some long standing issues demonstrates that genuine progress is being made.  There is also a clear commitment to quickly finalise a new Fair Work Agreement.

We will keep you updated on developments, with further talks scheduled for next week.
