Systematic consultation failures on contracting out

(3 March 2010) On a routine visit to the Rosebud Delivery Centre the CEPU Vic branch was informed by members that management was intending to contract out some existing Corporate rounds as well as new growth in the area.  The announcement was made during a tool box talk. No advice was provided to the union in accordance with the consultation provisions in the current EBA.

Australia Post has come under fire from the union previously over its failure to comply with the consultation provisions in the agreement.   Last year the union took Australia Post to the Victorian Magistrates’ Court over its failure to consult on the contracting out of work in Euroa (the matter is still before the Court).  In this latest matter the union understand s that there are part-time PDOs who have been working additional hours on a regular basis but have now had their hours cut back and are looking for additional work.

There is no excuse for Post’s systematic consultation failures or its non-compliance with commitments to not use outside contractors without consideration of the use on opportunities for Post employees.

The matter has been placed in dispute by the union.
