Member tip off on Post employment survey

(3 March 2010) Following a tip off by CEPU members that Australia Post was conducting a survey of employees’ attitude to their employment conditions and benefits the union contacted the Corporate HR manager for a heads up on the survey.

Specifically we are keen to better understand what the motive and purpose of the survey is and what will be done with the findings.

The survey is being conducted by telephone by the Wallis Consulting Group.  Members who participate in the survey should let Post know that they are concerned about Post’s hitherto refusal to agree to an EBA that guarantees job security, safety, pay and access to arbitration on all employment-related matters.

The CEPU raised this matter with Post and was informed that the survey is about the range of benefits that are currently provided to staff (financial education program, workplace health strategy, superannuation, product/service discounts as well as the retail staff discount) and the extent to which staff are aware of these benefits and value them.

“This will assist us in communicating to staff around these benefits. The survey is also about the types of benefits that staff would like to access. This will give us guidance around what other benefit options we should be assessing,” according to Post.  “This form of general benefit survey has not been done previously. Rather we have tended to focus on staff views around specific benefits.”

While the aims of this exercise seem innocent enough, the problem is it was rolled out with no consultation with the union whatsoever.

We remind members that participation in the survey is completely voluntary.
